Pups Save a Giant Plant
PAW Patrol 324A Scene 23

Trivia
  • In this episode, Marshall slides on Buddy (the giant Bugum Lovus plant) to get to the PAW Patroller.
    • Shortly after, he referenced the term "faceplant".
  • Mayor Goodway and Chickaletta visit the jungle for the first time.
  • This is currently the last episode where Steven Sullivan writes an episode on his own.
  • Buddy the Bugum Lovus displays multiple similarities to Audrey II, an alien plant who serves as the main antagonist of the 1982 musical/1986 film Little Shop of Horrors; notably trying to eat other characters.
    • However unlike Audrey II, Buddy the Bugum Lovus is simply a Earthborn insectivorous plant species that grew abnormally large due to being planted in an area of the jungle where Bugum Lovus do not grow naturally (as Bugum Lovus are native to a specific area on the other side of the swamp).
      • As Bugum Lovus are insectivorous plants presumably the soil they naturally grow in is not as nutritious as that found in the area that caused Buddy's abnormal growth (as real world carnivorous plants can supplement their nutrient requirements, particularly for nitrogen and phosphorus, with insect prey that they capture). This is supported by the information from Carlos' plant book as Carlos explains that Buddy should have never been planted there due to the soil being too fertile which caused his abnormal growth. Additionally Carlos reveals that Buddy would get sick if he doesn't consume insects indicating that Bugum Lovus must feed on insects to supplement their nutritional requirements.
      • As a result, this episode teaches viewers the importance of ensuring that plants are planted in the proper location, especially in the case of carnivorous plants like Buddy.
    • Also, Buddy and his fictional plant species the Bugum Lovus may have been inspired by the real life Venus flytrap, a plant that eats any bug that lands inside its mouth-like appearance.
    • In "Dino Rescue: Pups Save the Triceratops Tag-Alongs", a forest of giant plants identical to Buddy (as they use the character model) appears in the Dino Wilds. However it is unclear if they are a prehistoric precursor, subspecies, or giant sized Bugum Lovus (as their giant size could simply be the result of the soil they grow in and/or their size is due to the influence of other environmental factors such as the size of local herbivores like Triceratops, Stegosaurus and Brachiosaurus) like Buddy.
    • In "Pups Save a Greenhouse", the giant plant made an appearance again.
  • At the very final part of the episode, before the credits, Skye, Marshall, and Chase, respectively, break the fourth wall as they made eye-contact to the viewers.
  • In Canada, this episode, as well as its sister episode, "Pups Get Stuck", aired on New Year's Eve 2016.
    • As a result, they are the last to premiere in 2016 in Canada.
  • In the US, this episode, as well as its sister episode, "Pups Get Stuck" is the first episodes to premiere in 2017.
  • This is the first time Zuma is deployed in the PAW Patroller.
  • The events of this episode were referenced later in Season 8's "Pups Save a Greenhouse".
  • It is revealed that Marshall is afraid of crocodiles.

Errors

  • Caption error: At the very start of the episode, when Marshall says "I can't wait to see Carlos and Tracker," the captions say that Rocky said it. The line right after that, Chase says "This place sure is cool. Right, Chickaletta?" but the captions say that Marshall said the line.
  • Tracker calls Mayor "Señora Goodway" which is Spanish for "Mrs. Goodway". However, Mayor Goodway is not married.
  • There is Chase's net at the scene where Tracker is talking to Chickaletta. However, in the next scene when Carlos and Ryder are talking about the plant, it disappears.
  • Before he jumps into his pup-house, Marshall's pup-pack switches to the EMT version.
